High school training programs

Mad Alpine offers two high school programs. A training only option and another that includes coaching and support at Midwest Alpine Racing ski competitions. Please take a look at the options below. We look forward to working with you this season!

High school training only

This program is intended for high school athletes seeking high quality training throughout the season. Athletes have the opportunity to train along side the US Ski and FIS racers, receive coaching from top certified US Ski coaches and ultimately develop into faster ski racers through focused training sessions where they are provided with helpful coaching feedback.

  • Includes training with the team starting in December and ending in March. Start & end dates dependent on snow/training availability but our goal is to start the first week in December and go until mid-March. In a typical season this is anywhere from 13-15 weeks of training.

    • Training will take place Tuesday and/or Thursday evenings from 5:30-8:30PM. Free skiing warm-up is encouraged prior to practice.

    • General structure of training evenings: dynamic warm-up, drill of the night, progression drill course followed by lots of gate time.

  • Support from a professional experienced coaching staff. All coaches are registered US Ski coaches that have been background checked and are continually seeking education to improve their coaching skills.

  • Includes dryland training in November.

  • Includes coaching at our local Tyrol Holiday Camp - details to come. The La Crosse Holiday Camp is available to this group for a small additional fee.

  • Includes at least a training camp day at Mt. LaCrosse prior to HS State Championships. Video and potentially timed training utilized at training events.

  • Additional training opportunities during the season will be announced when available.

  • High School athletes are encouraged to attend their High School practice on Wednesday evenings.

  • Program cost: $225 for either Tuesday or Thursday evening or $425 for both Tuesday and Thursday evenings

This program includes ALL OF THE ABOVE plus coaching support at all MWAR (Midwest Alpine Racing) races! WJR provides athletes with an opportunity to compete in a fun, local recreational league. This is a great program for high school athletes that are looking for a place to compete outside of high school racing with Mad Alpine. Many of the top Milwaukee area high school athletes complete in MWAR so this is a great opportunity to see your competition prior to Wisconsin High School State.

REQUIREMENTS

  • All Mad Alpine members (no matter what program) are required to have a license with US Ski & Snowboard. For the majority of WJR athletes a USSA "General Membership" of $30 is all that is required. The US Ski & Snowboard General Membership provides benefits including insurance and discounts. Please sign up for the US Ski membership prior to signing up for Mad Alpine. Register here.

  • Tyrol Basin charges a fee for training space that is paid directly on the Tyrol Basin website. Charge is $50 for the entire season. Tyrol has confirmed that the fees will go directly towards improving our race training hills. Please go here to the Tyrol Basin website to pay this fee prior to November 15th. NOTE: You only pay this fee once. So if you are a part of High School racing and Mad Alpine you only pay $50 for the season.

  • MWAR competition rules can be found here on the MWAR website.

    • Helmets with solid shells covering both ears are required on all helmets. NO soft ear helmets will be permitted.

    • Face bars/guards are not permitted in Giant Slalom and are optional in Slalom.

  • This is a volunteered run sport so all parents of all clubs are required to volunteer throughout the season. Thank you in advance for your support!

  • If your athlete competes in any US Ski race this season they are required to be using equipment that is in alignment with US Ski regulations.
