High school training programs

Two high school programs are available this season. A training only option and another that includes coaching and support at WJR races. Please see details below. We look forward to working with you this season!

High school training only

This program is intended for high school athletes seeking high quality training throughout the season. Athletes have the opportunity to train along side the USSA racers, receive coaching from top certified USSA coaches and ultimately develop into faster ski racers through focused training sessions.

  • Includes training with the team starting in December and ending in March. Start & end dates dependent on snow/training availability but our goal is to start the first week in December and go until mid-March. In a typical season this is anywhere from 12-15 weeks of training.
    • Training will take place Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-8:30PM. Free skiing warm-up is encouraged prior to practice.
    • General structure of training evenings: dynamic warm-up, drill of the night, progression drill course followed by lots of gate time.
  • Support from a professional experienced coaching staff. All coaches are registered USSA (United States Ski Association) coaches that have been background checked and are continually seeking education to improve their coaching skills.
  • Eight session comprehensive dryland training program.
  • Includes coaching at Tyrol Holiday Camp (12/26-12/28) and coaching Mt. La Crosse Holiday Camp (12/29-12/31). Note a small fee will be required for lane space at Mt. La Crosse.
  • Includes two one-day High School training camps at Mt. LaCrosse prior to HS State Championships. Video and timed training utilized at training events.
  • Additional training opportunities during the season will be announced when available.
  • High School athletes are encouraged to attend their High School practice on Wednesday evenings.
  • Program cost: $400

wjr high school program

The program includes ALL OF THE ABOVE plus coaching support at all WJR (Wisconsin Junior Racing) races! WJR provides athletes with an opportunity to compete in a fun, local recreational league. This is a great program for high school athletes that are looking for a place to compete outside of high school racing with Mad Alpine. Many of the top Milwaukee area high school athletes complete in WJR so this is a great opportunity to see your competition prior to Wisconsin High School State.

This is a great opportunity to extend the high school ski season and compete at a Championship event! The competition is scheduled for March 24th and 25th at Afton Alps Ski Area near the Twin Cities. Athletes interested in this event will need to purchase a short term competitor US Ski & Snowboard membership and pay for the race day fees associated with this race.
  • Program cost: $450

REQUIREMENTS

  • All Mad Alpine members (no matter what program) are required to have a license with US Ski & Snowboard. For the majority of WJR athletes a USSA "General Membership" of $20 is all that is required. The USSA General Membership provides benefits including insurance and discounts. Please sign up for the USSA membership prior to signing up for Mad Alpine. Register here.
  • WJR competition rules can be found here on the WJR website.
    • Helmets with solid shells covering both ears are required on all helmets. NO soft ear helmets will be permitted.
    • Face bars/guards are not permitted in Giant Slalom and are optional in Slalom.

  • This is a volunteered run sport so all parents of all clubs are required to volunteer throughout the season. Thank you in advance for your support!
  • If your athlete competes in any USSA race this season (such as the Championships at Afton in March) they are required to be using equipment that is in alignment with USSA regulations
