intro to race

Intro to race is our transition program between the Mountain Explorers program and our Junior Race program. The focus of the program is to continue to develop a strong skiing foundation outside of the race course and then to take those skills and translate them into a race course. This program is primarily a fundamentals and training program that includes racing in three Midwest Alpine Racing competitions during the season to provide experience in ski racing competitions.

  • Includes two on snow sessions per week starting the week of December 15th and ending the first week in March. Your athlete will have 25 on-snow sessions during the season with Mad Alpine for just practices. Please note that normal practices do not run December 23rd to January 1st. See full schedule on the calendar below.

  • Training sessions will be held on Sundays 3:00-4:30PM and Thursdays 5:30-7:00PM at Tyrol Basin.

  • Includes our Tyrol Basin Holiday Camp scheduled 12/26, 12/27 and 12/28.

  • Includes coaching at three Midwest Alpine Racing (MWAR) competitions. These races will be held on Saturdays in January and February at ski resorts in Madison and Milwaukee. There are six races to select from including: 1/4 at Tyrol Basin, 1/11 at Little Switzerland, 1/18 at Ausblick, 1/25 at Holy Hill, 2/1 at Alpine Valley or 2/8 at Sunburst. Our suggestion is for the Intro to Race athletes to attend the 1/4 Tyrol Basin race, the 1/18 Ausblick race and the 2/8 Sunburst Race. With that said, we understand scheduling conflicts so the Intro to Race kids are invited to select the three they attend.

  • Includes MWAR race fees. No need to register for this, we have you covered!

  • A high level of support from a professional experienced coaching staff. All coaches are registered US Ski & Snowboard coaches that have been background checked and are continually seeking education to improve their coaching skills.

  • A low athlete to coach ratio at training and races.

  • Includes a dryland training program in November to prepare for the season.

  • Additional training and racing opportunities during the season will be announced when available. Additional fees may apply for coaching at these add-on events.

  • Program fee: $490 (+$30 US Ski & Snowboard Membership Fee, see note below)
